CHINESE POTATOES CULTIVATION
56 hectares out of the 60 earmarked for the cultivation of Chinese brand of potatoes have so far being used by farmers to grow the brand in four local government areas of the state.
According to the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaji Hamza Muhammad the 60 hectares were earmarked for the pilot scheme of the programme.
He said the first batch of participants include farmers from Gwaram, Kirikasamma, Kazaure and Dutse local government areas of the state and that the potato which was planted in September would be harvested in January next year.
The special assistant explained further that the introduction of the new variety of potato by the state government, meat that farmers could plant and harvest potato three times annually and urged youths in state to venture into farming so as to benefit from governmentโs agricultural policies geared towards reduction of unemployment.
