Jigawa State Executive Council Approves Major Welfare, Healthcare, Agriculture, Education and Emergency Relief Initiatives

The Jigawa State Executive Council (SEC), chaired by His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, at its meeting held on Monday, 6th July, 2026, approved a number of key policies and projects aimed at improving the welfare of citizens, strengthening public services, and accelerating socio-economic development across the State.

Immediate Relief for Rainstorm Victims

The Council opened its meeting with prayers for victims of the recent rainstorm that affected several communities across the State. It expressed profound sympathy and solidarity with the affected families and extended heartfelt condolences to those who suffered losses.

To provide immediate support, the Council directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to immediately deploy emergency relief materials and other essential assistance to the affected communities. The Government also assured residents that continuous assessments would be carried out to ensure all victims receive the necessary humanitarian support while urging the public to remain vigilant throughout the rainy season and comply with safety advisories.

Upward Review of Minimum Pension

In furtherance of its commitment to improving the welfare of retirees, the Council approved the upward review of the minimum monthly pension payable under the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme from ₦12,000.00 to ₦20,000.00, with effect from 1st July, 2026.

To facilitate the implementation of the revised minimum pension, the Council also approved an additional annual expenditure of ₦2,068,608,000.00 for the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme. The decision reflects the Government’s continued dedication to promoting the well-being and social protection of pensioners.

Solar Electrification of Four Health Facilities

The Council approved the award of a contract valued at ₦2,136,060,609.38 for the complete solar-powered electrification of:

  • Birnin Kudu General Hospital
  • Ringim General Hospital
  • Kazaure Specialist Hospital
  • Bulangu Cottage Hospital

The project is designed to provide reliable and sustainable electricity for critical healthcare services, improve hospital operations, and reduce recurrent energy costs through clean energy solutions.

Dairy Production Programme and Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme

To strengthen agriculture and livestock development, the Council approved ₦3,340,739,507.88 for the implementation of the Jigawa State Dairy Production Programme. The initiative is expected to transform the livestock sector, increase dairy productivity, strengthen the livestock value chain, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of farming households.

Additionally, the Council approved ₦923,670,000.00 for the implementation of the 2026 Rainy Season Phase IV of the Jigawa State Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme, aimed at encouraging public servants to participate in agricultural production, improving household incomes, and enhancing food security across the State.

Procurement of Vehicles and ICT Equipment for Education

The Executive Council also approved the award of a contract worth ₦581,667,718.75 for the procurement of:

  • Eight (8) Vehicles
  • Thirty (30) Laptop Computers
  • One Hundred (100) Desktop Computers

The equipment will be deployed to the Jigawa State Senior Secondary Education Board (JSSSEB) and other parastatals under the State Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology to strengthen education administration, improve monitoring and supervision of educational institutions, enhance digital administration, and promote efficient service delivery.

These approvals reaffirm the commitment of the Jigawa State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, to delivering responsive governance, strengthening critical sectors, improving public welfare, and advancing sustainable development across the State.
