Highlights of Major Decisions Reached at the State Executive Council Meeting Held on Monday, 17th August, 2026 | 4th Rabi Al-Awwal, 1448 AH
The meeting was chaired by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA.

🎓 ₦891.66 MILLION APPROVED FOR 193 JIGAWA INDIGENES STUDYING AT NEAR EAST UNIVERSITY, CYPRUS
The State Executive Council approved ₦891,660,000.00 for the payment of tuition fees and other approved academic and welfare expenses for 193 Jigawa State indigenes studying Medical and Applied Medical Sciences at Near East University, Cyprus, for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.
The approval covers:
✅ Tuition Fees
✅ Administrative Fees
✅ Value Added Tax (VAT)
✅ Accommodation
✅ Living Allowances
✅ Resident Permits
✅ Health Insurance
The Council expressed its joy over the success recorded by the students, including 99 students who have completed the mandatory 500-level courses and are now undergoing internship, while the remaining 55 students are to complete some courses before commencing their internship.
The Council also commended Abu-Ubaida Abubakar, who scored the highest CGPA in the Department of Civil Engineering since the establishment of the University.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the educational advancement of deserving Jigawa State indigenes and urged the students to remain focused, uphold the good name of Jigawa State and Nigeria, and return home after completing their programmes to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the development of the State.

📝 ₦1.056 BILLION APPROVED FOR SETTLEMENT OF 2026 NATIONAL EXAMINATION REGISTRATION CHARGES
The Council approved ₦1,056,213,457.50 for the settlement of outstanding payment obligations relating to the 2026 National Examination Registration Charges for students across Jigawa State.
A total of 40,210 students will benefit:
📘 NECO: 32,663 students
📗 NABTEB: 685 students
📙 NBAIS: 6,862 students
The approval is aimed at ensuring that eligible students are not denied the opportunity to participate in their respective national examinations because of outstanding registration fees.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality education and ensuring that financial constraints do not become a barrier to the academic progress of Jigawa State students.

🚧 ₦1.096 BILLION APPROVED FOR ACCESS ROAD CULVERTS AND DRAINAGE PROJECTS IN MIGA AND BABURA LGAs
The Council approved contracts worth a total of ₦1,095,729,202.29 for the construction of access road culverts and drainage infrastructure in Miga and Babura Local Government Areas.
📍 Sansani–Ganau–Samai Road, Miga LGA
Approved Sum: ₦346,998,542.78
The project covers the construction of access road culverts and drainage along the Sansani–Ganau–Samai Road, with a completion period of 16 weeks.
📍 Limintani–Kagadama Road, Babura LGA
Approved Sum: ₦748,730,659.51
The project covers the construction of access road culverts and drainage along the Limintani–Kagadama Road.
The projects will help:
✅ Mitigate flooding
✅ Improve the flow and evacuation of rainwater
✅ Protect road infrastructure and properties
✅ Provide safer and smoother access
✅ Improve connectivity and mobility
✅ Support socio-economic activities in the benefiting communities

🏫 ₦405.16 MILLION APPROVED FOR RENOVATION OF DILAPIDATED CLASSROOM BLOCKS ACROSS JIGAWA STATE
The Council approved ₦405,160,444.14 for the renovation of dilapidated classroom blocks across the State under the 2026 Capital Development Programme.
The intervention will focus on identified classroom blocks that have deteriorated over time and require urgent rehabilitation to provide a safe, conducive and comfortable learning environment for pupils and students.
The project is expected to:
✅ Address critical infrastructural deficiencies in schools
✅ Improve the condition of learning facilities
✅ Enhance students’ academic experience
✅ Support teachers in the effective delivery of instruction
The Council also called on relevant authorities, school management, communities and other stakeholders to support the proper maintenance and protection of the renovated facilities to ensure their sustainability for present and future generations.
