The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) recently recruited 575 classroom teachers as part of its commitment and determination to improve basic education in the state.
Speaking through the Permanent Member 1 of the board , Alhaji Hamza Aliyu kantoga during the distribution of offer of appointment to the successful applicants, the Executive Chairman of the board, Alhaji Salisu Zakar said, when the present administration came on board it realized that the education sector need urgent attention especially in terms of providing qualified teachers in English, Mathematics and Basic science, addressing the problem of congestion in classrooms, providing sufficient furniture and instructional materials among others.
He said, the board in addressing these problems had constructed quite a number of new classrooms and renovated dilapidated ones , purchased furniture for both teachers and students as well as the provision of enough learning materials for primaries and junior secondary schools across the state pointing out that the intention of the state government was to recruit 1393 classroom teachers at basic levels, and that after the examinations and interviews, 575 applicants were successfully selected to serve as a classroom teachers but assured that the board will soon recruit more teachers to fill the remaining gap of the over 700 teachers required .
He thanked the present administration for fulfilling its promise of recruiting more qualified teachers in the state as well as its efforts in finding a lasting solution to the problems bedeviling education sector in the state.
In her speech, the education commissioner through the Director Tertiary of the Ministry of Education, Hajiya Safiya Muhammad congratulated the newly recruited classroom teachers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them to achieve the desired objective of improving the education sector.
