The Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, welcomed the former Governor of Jigawa State and the current Minister of Defense of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar (MON, mni), to the State Government House in Dutse.
The Honorable Minister visited to commiserate with the people of Jigawa State over the recent flood disaster that affected several areas in the state.
The flood, which impacted 14 local government areas in Jigawa State, resulted in significant loss of lives and properties. Approximately 28 people lost their lives due to building collapses, and around 7,000 houses were destroyed. The flood also affected more than 6,000 farmlands and over 135 villages and neighborhoods. Currently, many people are residing in flood relief camps in various parts of Jigawa State.
Minister Badaru expressed his condolences over this disaster, noting that such an event is unusual for this time of year. He emphasized that this is indeed a test from the Almighty, who alone can provide a remedy for such calamities.
The Honorable Minister praised the efforts of the Jigawa State Government in responding swiftly to the crisis when it occurred. He commended the state government for providing immediate assistance and relief to the affected areas and also appreciated the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, for sympathizing with the people of Jigawa State in the wake of this disaster.
In his concluding remarks, former Governor Badaru announced a donation of twenty million naira (N20,000,000) to support the flood-affected people. He also prayed for the souls of those who lost their lives due to the flood.
In his speech, the host, Governor Mallam Umar Namadi, expressed gratitude to former Governor Badaru for showing concern for the people of Jigawa State. Despite his numerous commitments, he made time to personally visit and sympathize with his people, demonstrating his deep compassion for the people of Jigawa. This did not come as a surprise, Governor Namadi said, because they know of his kindness and generosity.
The Governor added, “We know that many people in Abuja are sending you messages of sympathy over what happened. Whatever affects Jigawa also affects you. Despite this, you personally came and brought along a donation of twenty million naira to support those affected by the flood. May Allah reward you with the best of blessings.”
“As you know, the problem of flooding in Jigawa State has been ongoing for a long time, but this recent occurrence is different from what we are used to. This was caused solely by heavy rainfall. Most floods typically occur from late September to early October, but this heavy downpour has already caused loss of lives and properties.”
“With God’s help, we will overcome this trial. As a government, we will do our utmost to prevent such floods in the future and provide support to those affected by this disaster.”
Finally, Governor Namadi prayed for former Governor Badaru, thanking him for his concern and asking Allah to continue to guide him in all his endeavors.
