Biography
Senator Mustapha Makama, a seasoned grassroots politician, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the realms of politics and governance. His political journey began when he was elected as the Executive Chairman of the Local Government in 1991, marking the commencement of a distinguished career.
Born and raised in Kiyawa Town, Jigawa State, Makama pursued his education at Kiyawa Central Primary School, Government College Birnin-Kudu, and Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa, obtaining his SSCE in 1984. While initially pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry at Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto, he deferred his studies to respond to the call of the people of Kiyawa Local Government. Under the platforms of NRC and UNCP, Makama successfully contested and won the seat of a Local Government Chairman.
Continuing his academic pursuits, Makama earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science Education (B.Sc.Ed.Chemistry/Biology) from Bayero University Kano and a Master's Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
With the advent of democracy in 1999, Makama was appointed to the Executive Council of Jigawa State, serving as Honorable Commissioner in the Ministries of Health and Local Government. In 2003, he successfully contested and won the seat of Honourable Member of Jigawa State House of Assembly, Kiyawa Local Government Constituency, under the NNPP Party, subsequently being elected as the Speaker of the Assembly.
