The State Executive Council (SEC) held its regular meeting on Monday, 14th April 2025, chaired by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA. The following are highlights of the major decisions reached during the session:
1. Approval of Hijab Use for Female Security Operatives
In line with the Jigawa State Government’s efforts to provide an inclusive and enabling environment for all citizens—particularly women—the Council has issued a directive to the three security guard companies operating in the state.
These companies are to allow female security operatives among the 9,969 young people recruited to wear Hijabs while on duty, as a matter of religious and cultural accommodation.
This decision followed a report presented by the Council Committee on Schools, Hospital, and Court Security, and reaffirms the administration’s support for respectful workplace policies that uphold modesty, inclusion, and dignity.
2. Introduction of Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW)
Following the presentation of a report by the Council Committee on Creativity and Innovation Development, the Council has approved the inauguration of the Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW) starting from 2025.
This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to promoting talent development among the youth and aims to foster a vibrant spirit of innovation, creativity, and enterprise across the state.
JISCIW will serve as a platform to identify, showcase, and support creative talents, especially in fields such as technology, design, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
3. Funding for Return Travel of Medical Students in Cyprus
The Council has approved the release of Five Hundred and Sixteen Million, One Hundred and Forty-Seven Thousand, Ninety Naira (₦516,147,090.00) for the purchase of 184 return tickets and 1 one-way ticket for 185 Jigawa State students currently studying various medical and applied medical courses at Near East University, Cyprus, in preparation for the 2024/2025 academic session.
This intervention underscores the government’s continued commitment to supporting the education and welfare of Jigawa’s students abroad, especially in critical fields such as medicine and healthcare.
