Highlights of the major decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting held today Wednesday 24th July, 2024 as chaired by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA.
The Council has approved:
1. The Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission request to conduct Local Government Election. The Council decision is in line with the pursuant of the Section 197 (I) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission Law No. 3 of 2012 (as amended) that give the Commission mandate to conduct Local Government Councils Election into the office of Chairman, Vice Chairman and Councillorship Constituencies across the 27 LGAs of the State.
2. Similarly, the Council decision is in compliance with the Supreme Court of Nigeria judgement on Local Government Councils “that all Local Government Areas in Nigeria must have a democratically elected officials and elections are to be conducted in all States within three (3) months”.
