The state government has so far spent one billion four hundred and seventy one million naira on the execution of water projects in small towns across the state.
Speaking in a Radio Jigawa monitored in Dutse, the Managing Director, Engineer Ali Umar said out of the amount 837 million was spent on the provision of 132 solar powered water schemes, 188 million naira on conversation of diesel water schemes to solar powered and 391 million naira on operations and maintenance.
Engineer Ali Umar stated that 40 solar powered schemes were provided under the constituency projects in 2016 and that 35 water schemes were converted to solar powered schemes this year.
He said in 2015 government spent over 243 million naira on operations and maintenance of water equipment in small towns, adding that between 2015 to 2017 government spent over 76 million naira on the provision of new water schemes in small towns while 80 motorized schemes were billed for conversation to solar powered this year.
He said in 2016 alone the agency spent N97 million on the conversion of 25 motorized water schemes to solar powered and will be expendingN90nillion this year on similar project.
