The Islamic Education Bureau was established by the state Edict of 17th September 1998.
Composition
The Bureau consists of the Chairman and five members. Also as members are representatives of Ministry of Education, Local Government, and Social Welfare not below the rank of a Director while one Qadi is to represent the Sharia court of appeal. The chief Executive of the Bureau shall be the Executive Secretary who is appointed by the Governor and is responsible for the day to day execution of the policy of the Bureau and the general management of its business and shall carry out such other functions as the Bureau may from time to time direct.
Capacity
Bureau has five departments with staff strength of six hundred and eighty staff and 21 Arabic Secondary schools under its control.
Functions
a) To be responsible for the quality control of Arabic Islamic Education in the state at primary, primary and post primary levels.
b) To formulate Broad policies and advice the Government on matters relating to Islamic and Arabic Education and moral teaching of Islam in the state.
c) To assume the Management of any institute within the state where so directed by the Commissioner.
d) To plan and take measures of integrating Qur`anic and Islamic schools Education in the state with the formal system.
e) To maintain existing public Islamiyya Qur`anic and Arabic schools, and to establish, maintain and control such new ones as the Government may directed.
f) To make such provision for conducting or assisting the conduct of research as appears to the Bureau to be desirable for the purpose of improving Islamic and Arabic Education within the state.
